BANNER
   Editors's Comment

Editor: Paul SpackmanWell, there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of news over the past week. On Wednesday, PSD announced it had extended the last date distributors could sell the widely-used herbicide trifluralin to 20 September 2008. It’s an extra six months over the original date and farmers will have until 20 March 2009 to use up stocks. Plans of a merger between PSD and the HSE also emerged and DEFRA is consulting the industry.

Bioethanol grabbed the headlines on Thursday (22 Nov), as Lord Rooker opened the UK’s first bioethanol plant at Wissington in Norfolk. Let’s hope it gives a much-needed boost to the sugar beet sector.

The week also saw the launch of the Syngenta/ Farmers Weekly Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year award. If you’re keen to put your spraying skills to the test and want a chance to win a study tour to Denmark, why not enter this prestigious award.

Kind regards,
Paul Spackman
